A film by Byron Hurt

hip hop event

7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Cross Cultural Center:
Joseph White Conference Room

Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes takes an in-depth look at manhood in rap music and hip-hop culture- where creative genius, poetic beauty, and mad beats collide with misogyny, violence and homophobia. This groundbreaking documentary is a "loving critique" of certain disturbing developments in rap music culture from the point of view of a fan who challenges the art form's representations of masculinity.

The film was followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Jared Sexton of African American Studies-Film and Media Studies.

RAINN Day!
September 27, 2007

Did you know that college women are 4 TIMES more likely to be sexually assaulted than women of any other age group?

RAINN Day is a program created by RAINN to fight sexual violence on college campuses. This year, it was held on over 1,000 campuses and reached over 500,000 students. UCI's Right to KNOW peer educators distributed wallet size cards and posters with tips on how to reduce one's risk of sexual violence, what to do if you have been assaulted, and how to help friend who has been victimized.

Representatives from The Pink Project were on campus to distribute photo books to benefit RAINN and the Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance.
